Create and organize chapters from the manuscript navigation, then write in a rich-text editor with familiar formatting, system fonts, word counts, and chapter goals. Focus mode removes surrounding workspace controls when the page needs your full attention.
Configurable commands let frequent actions follow your keyboard habits. Manual save, search, text formatting, and workspace navigation remain available without forcing a fixed shortcut scheme.

Use the language tools you choose
Scriptorum uses native spellchecking for editable text. Manuscript content remains exactly what you type and is not translated with the interface. Writers can turn spellchecking off when deliberate spelling, dialect, names, or capitalization make highlighting distracting.
ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere is a separate, optional desktop tool and is not bundled with Scriptorum. A writer has reported its overlay working on the manuscript surface; compatibility can vary with software versions.

Switch to focus mode to give the words more room. Spellcheck can be turned on or off; your writing language remains independent of the interface language.
Keep revision connected to planning
The manuscript belongs to the same local book vault as characters, relationships, timelines, and planning boards. Search across the vault, follow relevant references, and return to the chapter without maintaining parallel copies of the project.
When the draft is ready to leave the workspace, use the shared compile workflow rather than copying chapters into a separate document one at a time.

Can I import an existing manuscript?
Yes. Import DOCX, RTF, Markdown, plain text, or HTML into a new chapter or replace an existing chapter after a safety snapshot. Supported formatting is preserved and unsupported layouts are normalized.
How are chapters and scenes organized?
Chapters are the primary documents. Scenes are optional. Read the whole draft continuously, a chapter with scenes continuously, or an individual scene in Pages.
How does saving work?
The default automatic save interval is one minute, with 30-second, two-minute, and five-minute options. Save manually with the Save control or your configured shortcut. Switching books and closing the window also save pending edits.
Can I turn off spellcheck?
Yes. Use the manuscript Spellcheck On/Off control. Writing language is inferred from prose independently of the interface language.
Does ProWritingAid work inside Scriptorum?
A writer has reported its overlay working in the manuscript editor. ProWritingAid is a separate optional tool, not a bundled subscription or official integration; compatibility can vary by version.
