Your books live on your computer. The direct Windows edition works offline after initial activation, with no required Scriptorum account, cloud storage, or recurring subscription.
A private draft should not become inaccessible because a server is unavailable, a subscription ends, or an account changes. Scriptorum treats local storage as the foundation rather than an offline fallback.
Write without depending on a connection
Your book vaults are stored locally and normal planning, drafting, searching, and exporting work offline. No required Scriptorum account sits between you and the manuscript.
Internet access is used for the parts that genuinely require it: purchasing, initial license activation, and downloading software updates. The writing workflow itself stays on the machine.

Choose where the library belongs
Choose a save folder in Preferences and keep a separate backup of the library. Save and close Scriptorum before copying the active scriptorum-library.json file to a dated folder on another drive. Copy any separately stored source assets you want to preserve as well.
To restore, copy a backup to a separate folder and choose that folder through the save-location setup. Open the existing library when prompted, then check the books and chapters before replacing your current copy. If a file is unreadable or your books appear missing, contact support before moving or replacing data. Never edit the same synced library on two devices at once.

Save, close Scriptorum, and copy scriptorum-library.json from the active save folder to a dated backup location. Keep the original until a restore has been checked. Support explains how to reopen an existing library safely.
Buy once instead of renting the editor
The standalone Windows edition uses a perpetual license for up to three personal devices. There is no recurring subscription required to continue opening or writing the books stored locally.
Activate the direct edition online with the key from your purchase email. After activation, normal writing does not require a permanent connection. The perpetual license covers the version you purchased; future updates are not guaranteed indefinitely.
